INTRODUCTION
A.  Background of the Study
Language  and  people  have  a  close  relationship  because  the  development and  growth  of  language  walk  together  with  the  development  of  people’s  lives. They  use  language  to  express  their  thoughts,  ideas,  feelings,  attitudes,  and experiences.  It  means  that  language  is  used  to  communicate  to  each  other.  As  a means of communication, language allows people to say things and express their communicative  needs.  Catford  (1964:  1)  defines  language  as  a  type  of  patterned human  behavior.  It  is  a  way,  perhaps  the  most  important  way,  in  which  human beings interact in his social situations. 
Language as a means of communication is very important, so people have to master it. As human and technology grow, it is impossible to fulfill all human needs without interacting  with other people  that have different social conditions, cultures, and of course, language. People must learn not only their mother tongue, a language which only functions in the family or area where they live, but also an international language used in international world, that is, English.
Related to its function as an international language, English plays  a  great role in the world. English has been stated to be used as an international language and  popular  to  the  countries  all  over  the  world.  It  is  used  even  as  a  national language  of  several  countries  in  the  world.  English  is  a  foreign  language  in Indonesia  and  it  is  very  important  in  the  globalization  era.  In  our  country,??????????

INTRODUCTION
This  chapter  presents  the  background    of  the  study,  the  research problem,  the  purpose  of  the  study,  scope  and  limitation  of  the  study, significance  of  the  study,  definition  of  key  terms  and  organization  of  the study.
A.    Background of the Research 
English  as  an  international  language  is  considered  important  in  order  to absorb and develop science, technology, art and culture. In Indonesia, English is  as  a  foreign  language.  Here  English  is  used  as  subject  matter  in  education and  has  been  taught  at  the  elementary  school  level  until  university,  as  the highest  education  level.  They  learn  English  to  get  more  knowledge  and information  written  in  English,  in  the  highest  education,  learning  English means  not  more  than  knowing  the  language  so  the  learner  can  boarder  their knowledge on the real study.
Learning  English  can  not  be  separated  from  learning  grammar  and structure  because  it  is  one  way  how  to  master  English  and  comprehending language.  Otherwise,  as  we  know  that  there  is  two  English  grammar.  There are  Functional  grammar  and  traditional  grammar.  For  the  first  is  functional grammar.    Based  on    Gerot  and  Wilgnoil  (1994  :  6)  said  that  functional??????????????

CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
In this chapter, the researcher presents seven topics related to this research. Those  include  background  of  the  research,  statement  of  the  research  problems, objectives of the research, significance of the research, scope and limitation of the research, definition of key terms.
A.    Background of the Research
Language is an instrument to express an idea, opinion, mind, and feeling. Current  in  Diane  Larsen  (1986)  describe  that  language  is  for  communication. Moreover,  nowadays,  language  is  supposed  to  be  important  to  be  learned  in  all countries in the world. Almost all of the countries in the world use English as the second or become the foreign language. English is one of the important languages that must be mastered in the international communications.
There  are  four  skills  that  must  be  mastered  in  teaching  learning  English, there  are  listening,  writing,  reading,  and  speaking.  The  most  important  one  of them  is  speaking.  Ur  (1991:  120)  states  “Of  all  the  four  skills,  speaking  is considered to be able to be the most important skill. Learning speaking becomes the greatest interest for foreign language learners”. Besides, Richards (2002:201) states “A large percentage of the world’s language learners study English in order to develop proficiency in speaking”. In short, the ability of English is measured by its  result  in  speaking  skill  or  oral  communication.  Speaking  is  one  of  the  four language skills which should be develop in teaching English in line with Hedges??????????????

INTRODUCTION
A.   Background
Language as the tool of communication has an important role to reveal an intention to someone else. People will be able to express their thought and feeling by using language. Language, communication and life can not be separated. Language can be applied in many aspects, such as: education, society, politics, economics, and culture. One of the ways in communication is through speaking.
Speaking is one of the important and essential skills that must be practised to communicate orally. By speaking people are able to know what kinds of situations the world. People who have ability in speaking will be better in sending and receiving information or message to another. Speaking is the process of building and sharing meaning through the use of verbal and non verbal symbol in various contexts.
According to Stevick (1982: 103) speaking refers to the gap between linguistic expertise and teaching methodology. Linguistic expertise concerns with language structure and language content. Teaching speaking is not like listening, reading, and writing. It needs habit formation because it is a real communication. The speaking needs to be practiced as often as?????

INTRODUCTION
A.    Research Background
English as one of the international languages where almost all of the countries entire the world learn and use it, makes English as the most popular language in the world, not only as the second language but also as a foreign language. Indonesia is one of the countries where English as the foreign language had developed it as one of the optional subjects for high school since in 1994 curriculum, while in 2004 curriculum, it had been emphasized about the position of English in curriculum framework as the local content. It means that in educational field, Indonesia has developed English just more fifteen years, both in curriculum framework as in document and in practical in the classroom.
In Indonesian educational field nowadays, English had been developed in variety of ways. Many kinds of models and teaching method had been presented in the class to make English more fun to be learnt. Especially for grammar class, where English looks very difficult with formula and rules, it needs to apply attractive methods in teaching and learning process in the classroom. The traditional grammar method in teaching English begins to be left and comes to the more improved methods. Furthermore, English does not only focus on the language learning but more to the language use.
Teaching English will be concerned with the capability of the student to produce what they have learnt, than just become the competence that might be student doesn’t know how to????????
