CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
The  research  deals  with  reading  comprehension  achievement  as  one  of language  skills  that  will  be  taught  by applying graphic  organizer method at  the eight year  students  of  Junior  High  School.  This  chapter  presents  some  aspects. They are the background of the study, the statement of the problem, the objective of  the  study, the significance  of  the  study, definition  of  the  Key  Terms, organization of the study.
A. Background of The Study
English is one of important subjects which are taught in Indonesian school, starting  from Elementary School up to University. Why English must be taught? The first reason, English as one of the major international language in the global area, is having increase importance in our lives. We need it as a media to help us to  link  and  conquer  the  world.  The  second  reason,  people  need  a  common language  in  order  to  communicate each  other;  for  business,  travel,  and  social reasons. Educating the children to know the language will surely give them a basis for  their  future  development.  However,  most  of  the  students  still  face  some problems in learning English. They think that English is very difficult to be learnt and  understood.  These  problems  have  to  be  solved  to  make  teaching  learning process  successful.  As  we  know,  there  are  four  skills  that  must  be  learnt  in studying English; listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

INTRODUCTION
Learning  language  means  learning  to  communicate.  In  learning  a  language  one  can not  run  away  from  learning  its  sound,  because  language  is  a  system  of communication by sound. Learning language will automatically involves learning its pronunciation. Pronunciation is the most important component in phonology (Crystal, 1985  in  Belda,  1995:1).  Robbinet  (1978:64  in  Mukti,  2000:12)  also  states  that pronunciation  is  one  of  the  most  important  aspects  of  learning  a  language.  Besides that, pronunciation is one of the English aspects which support English speaking skill so  that  the  speakers  can  express  their  idea  easily  and  understandably.  Pronunciation can be developed by using many different techniques, and there are many techniques that can be used to teach or to improve students’ pronunciation. Among many ways that  can  be  applied  in  teaching  pronunciation,  the  writer  will  use  English  song  and poetry.  Papa  and  Lantorno  (1979;  viii)  state  that  introducing  song  in  the  classroom can  solve  most  of  the  problems  concerning  motivation.  Moreover,  songs  can  be profitably  introduced  by  all  teachers,  whatever  method  they  use,  and  are??????

INTRODUCTION
This chapter presents background of the research, statement of research problems, objectives of the research, significance of the research, scope and limitation of the research, and definitions of key terms.
A.  Background of The Research

Generally  education  is  one  way  to  reach  maturity  in  variety  of things.  Every  citizen  has  the  right  to  get  education  (Amandement  of  UUD 1945,  Chapter:31  Verse:1).  Education  have  an  important  role  in  the development  and  progress  of  society.  Forward  or  backward  a  society  is dependent from the forward or backward of the public education. Therefore, education  is very  important  and  should  be  given  primacy  in  achieving  the public development.
Without  education,  it  is  believed  that  the  human  at  now  is  no different  with  the  human  at  past  generations,  which  is  compared  with  the human at now, has been very behind both in quality of life and empowerment processes. In the extreme it can be said, that forward or backward and good or bad of society civilization or nation will be determined by how the education??????

INTRODUCTION
English, nowadays, has become an international language that is taught in almost all  level  of  education  in  Indonesia.  People  realize  that  learning  English  is  very important to compete in  this modern era. English teaching  and learning is aimed to improve students’ ability in using English as a means of communication. English as a means of communication has four basic language skills, i.e. listening, speaking,  reading,  and  writing.  Those  four  skills  are  also  classified  into  oral  and written  means  of  communication.  The  students  have  to  master  all  the communication  skills  in order  to  communicate  effectively.  In  the  reality,  the students have different achievement in those language skills. Some students have better  achievement  in  a  certain  skill  whereas  other  students  are  better  in  other skill. 
There  are  many  factors  which  can  influence  the  students  achievement  of  certain language  skills.  It  might  be  caused  by  the  teacher  and  the  students.  From  the teacher’s point of view, there are some factors  which can???????

A. Background of the Study
One of the aims of learning English as a foreign language is to be able  to  communicate. In conducting  communication  human  should  be polite to other people. Here the conduct communication politely speakers should use the politeness strategy. Politeness strategy is a matter of human to communicate each other. Human communication uses a method to make the  hearers  or  speakers  feel comfortable  to communicate. In conducting communication the speaker should know the attitude who we are speaking with.
This  research has purpose to  discuss  about  using face  threatening acts strategies in daily communication based Brown and Levinson in order to  enter  into  social  relationships,  we have  to  acknowledge  and  show awareness of the face, and human needs to satisfy with addressee. Here, if we  can’t  satisfy  so,  we  do  face  threatening  acts  or  FTA. In  other  words, face  refers  to  other  human’s  desire.  There  are  two  varieties  of  face; positive face and negative face. Positive face is the desire to have what we want  to  be  admired  by  others  and negative  face  is  our  wish  not  to  be imposed on by others.
